Fair Skin Burns Fast

Two kids in caps and long sleeves building a stone sundial under a shade tree in a sunny meadow

Big Idea

Fair Skin Burns Fast: Limit direct midday sun to about 20 minutes, and learn when midday sun is strongest (about 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

Story time

One morning at the flower meadow, Clara and Sam talked about “fair skin burns fast.” Fair skin burns fast, and sun-smart habits protect skin for life. Clara said, “Let's try it today!” Sam smiled and said, “Let's do it together.” By the end of the day, they both felt proud of the healthy choice they made.

Try it!

Do a Shade Hunt: walk around your yard or a park with a grown-up and find three shady spots. Put your hat on first!
