Big Idea

Compost and Healthy Soil: Fruit and vegetable scraps turn into rich soil for next year's garden.

Story time

One morning at the sunny vegetable patch behind the farmhouse, Lily and Ben talked about “compost and healthy soil.” Kids who grow food love to eat it, and they learn patience and care. Lily said, “Let's try it today!” Ben smiled and said, “Let's do it together.” By the end of the day, they both felt proud of the healthy choice they made.

Try it!

Plant a bean seed in a clear cup with damp paper towel and soil. Put it on a sunny windowsill, keep it damp, and draw what you see every two days.
