Rabbits

A boy handing a girl a basket of fresh eggs in a sunny farmyard with a cow, a goat and hens beside a red barn

Big Idea

Rabbits: Rabbits eat hay, leafy greens and a little vegetable, and need a quiet, clean hutch.

Story time

One morning at the farmyard at morning chore time, Hazel and Finn talked about “rabbits.” Caring for animals teaches kids gentleness, patience and responsibility. Hazel said, “Let's try it today!” Finn smiled and said, “Let's do it together.” By the end of the day, they both felt proud of the healthy choice they made.

Try it!

With a grown-up, make a chore chart for one animal you know (a hen, a goat, a rabbit or a sheep). List its food, water and clean-home jobs, and check them off for a week. Wash your hands with soap after every chore.

Quick check

  1. What is the big idea of this lesson in your own words?
  2. What is one thing you can do today to practice it?
  3. Who could you do this with at home?
