The Calm Corner

A girl and a boy sitting cross-legged on a blanket under a shade tree with calm smiles, a ginger cat napping beside them and sheep in the meadow

Big Idea

The Calm Corner: A cozy spot with a pillow, a book and a feelings chart where you can calm down.

Story time

One morning at the cozy calm corner by the window, Lily and Ben talked about “the calm corner.” Calm kids can name their feelings, breathe through them and ask for help. Lily said, “Let's try it today!” Ben smiled and said, “Let's do it together.” By the end of the day, they both felt proud of the healthy choice they made.

Try it!

Try balloon breathing with a grown-up: sit tall, put a hand on your belly, breathe in slowly through your nose for 4 counts so your belly fills like a balloon, then breathe out for 4 counts. Do it 5 times and notice how you feel.
