A Tool, Not a Friend

A dad and two kids using a tablet at a kitchen table while the girl writes notes

Big Idea

A Tool, Not a Friend: AI is like a calculator or a dictionary. It can't care about you like real people.

Story time

One morning at the homeschool table with a tablet, Owen and Lily talked about “a tool, not a friend.” AI is a fast tool for math and reading, but it can be wrong, so kids should use it wisely and with a parent. Owen said, “Let's try it today!” Lily smiled and said, “Let's do it together.” By the end of the day, they both felt proud of the healthy choice they made.

Try it!

Ask a grown-up one fact question, then check the answer together in a book. Did the book agree?

Quick check

  1. What is the big idea of this lesson in your own words?
  2. What is one thing you can do today to practice it?
  3. Who could you do this with at home?
