The Balanced Plate

A girl and a boy in a bright kitchen topping oatmeal with fresh berries

Big Idea

The Balanced Plate: Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein and dairy (or dairy alternatives).

Story time

One morning at the sunny farm kitchen, Ben and Hazel talked about “the balanced plate.” Good food gives kids energy to grow, learn and play. Ben said, “Let's try it today!” Hazel smiled and said, “Let's do it together.” By the end of the day, they both felt proud of the healthy choice they made.

Try it!

Make a rainbow plate with a grown-up: pick one food of each color you can find at home, then count the colors together.
